Defending A Bear Attack!

Yellowstone National Park – A Grand Rapids man recently was attacked and killed by a mother grizzly bear. While very tragic, there are things all of us can do to avoid or defend such an attack. The following tips and strategies may save your life:

-          Never Run Bears Are Faster Than You
-          Carry Bear Pepper Spray
-          Wear Bear Bells
-          Keep Food Concealed & Hidden
-          If You Do Cross Paths Clap & Make Yourself Look Big

Knowledge between black and grizzly bears is also critical. If you encounter either and the bear displays signs of aggression know the following: Play dead with a grizzly and fight back with a black bear. Grizzly bears usually attack to protect something (food, territory, cubs etc). Black bears, on the other hand, usually attack in a predatory manor. Submitting in this case will do no good.

Bear spray is a proven tool used by wildlife professionals across North America. Security Equipment Corporation, manufacture of Frontiersman Bear Attack Deterrent and SABRE personal safety sprays, better known as pepper spray and mace, urge all to be proactive regarding their safety.
