It’s officially bear season! Wildlife officials are again urging caution this spring. BEAR SIGHTINGS have been numerous and a grizzly recently attacked hikers.
Authorities suggest the following tips to avoid bear encounters:
- Store your trash inside or consider a bear-resistant trash container
- Bring any bird feeders inside in the evenings (bears often go after these!)
- Clean outdoor grills
- Consider an electric fence
Should you come in close proximity with a bear consider the following:
- Stay calm!
- Do NOT run or throw anything at the bear
- Avoid making eye contact
- Carry bear spray (proven last line of defense used by wildlife professionals)
